November progress, framing

So, moving forward on the project that we started here, here and here...

In November there was a lot of work being done that couldn't be seen, demo and reconstruction in the existing basement and rebuilding that floor structure and then, finally, the framing could begin:

...and one exciting day, the roof and floor trusses arrived. We made sure the hill was sanded well and we had a great "can do" sort of a truck driver who strapped the old tire chains on and backed right in there and slid them off the back of his truck...

Part III, backfilling, in-floor heat, slab

The next step in the project is back-filling and compacting the dirt around the foundation walls:

Once the dirt is filled in, compacted and leveled nicely, the foam insulation goes down on the ground and the tubes for the in-floor heat are stapled to the foam insulation. When everything is done, hot water will be pumped through the tubes to heat the concrete slab floor.

...and then we are ready for pouring the concrete slab. The pictures here are a couple days after the slab was poured and we had gotten a little rain... Now we are ready to start framing walls.

Back to present time, it is winter and we had our first below zero weather over the past week or so... I think it reached about 26 below a few days ago which seems cold this year but is really pretty normal for January. It has been unseasonably warm and we haven't gotten a lot of snow yet but I have a feeling we will see a late blast of real winter before it is all over...

part II of the project started this past Fall...

Continuing on with the project we started in the later part of this past summer...
The first post was here.
After the digging was done, the forms are put in place for the footings for the addition and garage parts of the project:

Those footing forms are filled with concrete and then the insulated concrete forms, (ICFs) go up. They are basically blocks made of foam insulation that stack up to form an inside and outside layer of insulation that will stay in place once the concrete is poured between them resulting in a solid 8" thick concrete wall with foam insulation on both sides. Here the forms are being put in place:

...and here they are braced and ready for concrete:

Then using a boom truck to place the concrete, the ICF forms are filled and leveled off:

The foundation walls are now ready for back-filling once the bracing is stripped away:

Late summer project start

Some progress pictures of a project we started in the late summer of the past year, (2015, seems like only yesterday...).

It is a partial tear down of an existing structure and then a rebuild.
Here are a couple pictures of the garage and part of the house as it looked before we started:

...and then:

Here part of the house is gone and the entire garage has been removed:

...and the digging for the footings is complete:

Obviously the trees are still green in these pictures, they were taken in early to mid September 2015...

Things look a little different out there today on this second day of 2016, but at least the sun looks like it intends to shine for a while...seems like it has been weeks since we have seen much of that.
